Stimulus Funded Infrastructure

Los Angeles County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas (2nd Supervisorial District)  announced Board approval of  a $6,889,518 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funded contract to Sully Miller to rehabilitate approximately 1,266,000 square feet of airport ramp area at the Compton/Woodley Airport in the City of Compton. The project will include reconstruction of all asphalt pavement on the airport (except for the runways and taxiways), drainage improvements, and new pavement markings in the reconstructed areas.

The County of Los Angeles Department of Public Works expects the work to start in the November 2009 and take 15 months to complete.  Access to the adjacent properties will remain open during construction.  When completed, the project will improve the condition of the airport's existing utility roadways.

Compton/Woodley Airport is an integral part of the Los Angeles County transportation and emergency response systems and provides a needed facility for the Compton community, the general public, and the flying public across the region. Compton/Woodley Airport has approximately 52,000 take-offs and landings per year.
