Welcome to the L.A. County
Green Building Program

In response to growing concerns over energy costs, dwindling natural resources, and overall building quality, more and more homeowners and contractors are looking towards “green building”. This holistic approach to construction brings together a vast array of practices and techniques to reduce the impacts of buildings on the environment by emphasizing quality construction, energy efficiency, better indoor environments, and sustainable communities.

It is common knowledge that buildings have a profound effect on the environment. And while new buildings constructed in Los Angeles County already comply with the nation’s most stringent energy code, a county-wide population growth of 10% will test every aspect of our development practices. With that, we are proud to announce that the County of Los Angeles is taking the lead in sustainable building initiatives by introducing the Green Building Program.

What is the purpose of Green Building? This section will act as a resource for any homeowner, contractor, or developer constructing under the Green Building Program. It will answer specific questions about each area of sustainable development including energy efficiency, water conservation, air quality, reusable materials, and site considerations. The Green Building Program seeks to create healthier, longer-lasting, and environmentally responsible buildings by enforcing the minimum requirements set forth in the LA County Green Building Ordinance. Building “green” can seem like a daunting task, but our Resource Center provides the latest in sustainable materials education as well as federal and state rebates and incentives.
