The cornerstone of the SmartBusiness Recycling Program is our staff
of Business Recycling Consultants. These consultants are specially trained
to make an analysis of the amount of trash and recyclables your business
generates and – most importantly – provide workable solutions
to reduce your waste. Their work includes identifying the types of materials
in your trash and assessing their recyclability. All of this is done during
a free site visit to your business.
How do I get a site visit? First, complete
the schedule a site visit form. Then, we'll
have one of our consultants visit your business. The visit usually takes
about 30 to 45 minutes (maybe longer if you're a big business) and you'll
be asked questions about your trash collection service, how much and what
kind of trash you discard, what recycling activities you're practicing,
etc. We'll also want to take a quick look at the trash in your dumpster,
but don't worry, we're not the trash police. All of this will help us
formulate recommendations for helping you reduce your trash, possibly
saving you money along the way. And while we're at your business, we'll
also provide you with promotional materials like pens, pencils, and posters
to help remind your employees of the importance of recycling.
Need more proof of the Program's effectiveness? In the past several
years the County's program has performed over 3,000 site visits and helped
hundreds of businesses establish or expand recycling programs. As a result
of these efforts, we've helped reduce the amount of trash landfilled by

What's in it for me? Many of the businesses we've helped have saved thousands
of dollars annually in disposal costs, plus they've earned recognition
from the County (and in some cases the State) for their outstanding efforts
toward waste reduction. By receiving third-party recognition, these businesses
are able to better demonstrate to customers their efforts and concern
for protecting the environment.
