Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Question:
I am working on a senior project for Cal Poly Pomona and I am required to do the hydrology and storm drain design. Our project site is in Pomona, CA and I would like to use the Hydraflow program to size the pipes and detention basins. Is this program recognized as an acceptable CAD program in LA County? Thank you.

Answer:
Thank you for your inquiry regarding the use of Hydraflow program (hydraulic and hydrology modeling software). Unfortunately, Department of Public Works (DPW) does not recognize the Hydraflow computer program as a software that used by Engineers and consultants in the industry. DPW uses WSPG or WSPGW for Hydraulic analysis and WMS (Watershed Modeling System) for Hydrology including Detention and Retention Basin analysis and Design. For further information regarding the WMS, you may contact Dr. Iraj Nasseri the Section Head of Water Resources Division - Hydrology Section at (626) 458-6124).
