Dental Effluent Guidelines

Effective July 14, 2017, new Federal Regulations define Dental Discharger (see link) to mean "a facility where the practice of dentistry is performed, including, but not limited to, institutions, permanent or temporary offices, clinics, home offices, and facilities owned and operated by Federal, state or local governments, that discharges wastewater to a publicly owned treatment works (POTW)". As such, beginning July 14, 2017, all new Dental Dischargers require an Industrial Waste Permit and must pretreat all wastewater with approved amalgam separators or removal devices to prevent dental amalgam from being discharged to the sanitary sewer. Existing Dental Dischargers must meet the new pretreatment requirements as well. Please follow this link for details.
