Field Book Logs

History:
These files are scans of the field book logs that were used in indexing of notes prior to the Land Records Information (LRI) website. For a few years after the creation of Public Works, County Engineer field notes were re-indexed into Public Works Field Books (PWFB). These pages were re-stamped with PWFB PW book and pages, filmed, then reassembled as a County Engineer field book.

Reason for these files:
During your research, you may come across a PWFB reference for a monument that may not appear to be online. By using these log files, you may find out that the book and page you have is a PWFB reference to an old CEFB or an old Road Department number that was re-indexed in to the new Public Works / Road Department system.

How to use:
The first two fields, columns 1-9, show Field Book and Page. Column 25 shows a cross reference type. County Engineer is type 9 and columns 26-33 show the old CEFB-Pg.

Example: For a map reference to PWFB 1029-550-552, open the page log for 1029 and scroll through to find pages 550-552. You would find that those pages were originally CEFB 4352-14-16. Look at the CEFB and reference the pages you need.

Other pages that were cross indexed were the old Road Department Field Books prior to 1964. These old references can be determined by their Field Book designation (a three-digit Field Book number, FQ, or R/W). If you go to the Land Records interactive map, zoom to your area or use the intersection search, turn on the field book grid, and reference which field page log to search.

Example: Look in columns 26-33 to find your page, then look to columns 1-9 and find the new book and page number. For FQ 734-70, you will find that the area is in PWFB 0722. When you search through 0722, you will find FQ 734-70 is now PWFB 0722-687, 688.

Note:
1. Road Department and Public Works used the same indexing system.
2. All RDFB or current PWFB now have a four-digit field book number.
