Oxford Basin
Oxford Retention Basin occupies an area of approximately 10.7 acres located in the unincorporated community of Marina del Rey, and is owned and operated by the Los Angeles County Flood Control District (LACFCD) as a flood control retention facility. Water inside Oxford Basin is a mix of urban and stormwater runoff, ground water, and tidal inflows from Marina del Rey Harbor.
In 2016, LACFCD completed the $14.7-million Oxford Basin Enhancement Project, which modernized the 10.7-acre facility. As a result, in addition to providing flood risk management, Oxford Basin also provides community benefits in the form of water quality, habitat enhancement, recreation, and education. The Oxford Basin Enhancement Project received an Envision Platinum Award from the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure after an independent peer-review process that evaluated the Project’s performance across 60 sustainability criteria.
