Airport Projects
Compton/Woodley Airport
An approved Airport Layout Plan (ALP) with narrative is required for all public airports that receive state or federal funding. Compton/Woodley Airport ALP is outdated and does not meet current standards. The County received a planning grant for additional projects that were not listed on prior ALP's. This will include, but not limited to: major pavement repairs to the runways, taxiways, ramp/apron areas, and other future capital improvement projects. The project narrative will update the airport inventory and forecast. Public Works Aviation Division as-needed airport planning consulting firm is currently working on the ALP update and it is anticipated to be completed by September 2015.

The paved runway, taxiway, and connectors are degraded and in need of reconstruction (Pavement Condition Index rating of 41 and below). The project would consist of rebuilding the existing Runway 07R/25L (3,322' x 60'), parallel taxiway Alpha, and connectors with no additions or deletions of paved areas is required to comply with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) standards, along with the County’s formal Airport Pavement Maintenance Program to improve the current conditions. The project would include removal or in-place pulverization of existing asphalt concrete, grading, drainage, layout, and pavement striping. The construction is anticipated to happen within 2 years, depending upon the FAA's availability and allocation of grant funding for this project. Also, in keeping with the intent of the County's recently adopted amendments to the Green Building/Sustainable Design Policy, the recycling/re-use of pulverized asphalt concrete and other existing materials will be incorporated into the design of this project. Public Works Aviation Division as-needed airport engineering consulting firm is currently working on the design and it is anticipated to be completed by September 2015.
