Public Works engaged a consulting firm in November 2012 for the design phase of the replacement of approximately 36,000 linear feet of perimeter fencing at the airport. The new fencing will be comprised of 8-foot tall chain link fencing, with 3 additional strands of barbed wire on top, for a total perimeter fence height of 9 feet. This project is consistent with recommendations from the Federal Aviation Administration’s Runway Safety Action Plan (RSAP) for the airport. Public Works solicited Requests for Proposals for the construction phase of the project from August 6, 2013 to August 27, 2013. The awarding of the contract is currently in process. Construction to begin in April 2014 and completed by March 2015.

To be consistent with the FAA Runway Safety Action Plan (RSAP) for the airport, this project will consist of designing and constructing a Portland Cement Concrete (PCC – 25,656 SF.) exit taxiway for Runway 06.  The exit taxiway (90 degree) will be approximately 400 feet long by 100 feet wide, and will also include the installation of corresponding lighting and signage.  The FAA’s Runway Safety Action Team has determined that aircraft, upon landing on Runway 06, frequently remain on the runway for extended periods due to the distance from their touch-down point to the nearest exit taxiway.  While these landing aircraft remain on the runway, other aircraft are unable to land or take-off, which may result in arrival or departure delays, extended traffic patterns, aborted takeoffs or landings or the potential for runway incursions by other aircraft.  This proposed Project will address these issues by providing aircraft landing on Runway 06 the opportunity to exit the runway much earlier.  Public Works Aviation Division as-needed airport engineering consulting firm is currently working on the design and it is anticipated to be completed by April 2015.  Solicitation for construction bids will be in the summer of 2015 and construction is anticipated to commence by October 2015. 

The existing generator has been repaired several times in the past years and it is no longer possible to make additional repairs as some replacement parts are not commercially available.  The generator is a vital piece of equipment for the airports, during power outages; it provides back-up/emergency electricity to critical areas of the airport such as runway/taxiway lighting systems, navigational aids and the air traffic control tower.  To effectively address this issue, a new diesel generator should be installed to replace the existing generator.  The new generator is John Deere Model 4045HF285 100KW generator.   Public Works is currently under construction for this project with a Job Order Contractor.  It is anticipated to be completed by April 2015.
